Elsenheimer files for re-election
Northern Michigan leader outlines aggressive platform to reform Lansing

State Rep. Kevin A. Elsenheimer said northern Michigan needs a strong voice in state government that represents a platform of reform, enticing economic development, tourism and commerce. “I am a proven leader and I will carry my local voice to Lansing,” said Elsenheimer after filing paperwork for re-election as the State Representative from Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan and Otsego Counties.

A native of northern Michigan, small business owner and current Assistant Minority Leader of the House Republican Caucus, Elsenheimer has been fighting against tax increases and advocating for governmental reforms. “It’s time for real reforms in state government. Families across northern Michigan have already made their own reforms to pay for gas, food or even to find a job. It’s about time Lansing followed suit.”

“Michigan is at the bumpiest crossroad in its history and we need new ideas that transcend partisan politics,” stated Elsenheimer. “I have a steadfast track record of standing firm on issues that are right for Northern Michigan, regardless of party affiliation. My leadership on equity funding, the Alba injection well, identity theft legislation as well as my efforts to keep state forest campgrounds open and return tax-dollars from the state’s over-collection reflect the district I represent.”

“Courageous changes are needed to move northern Michigan and our state forward - it can’t be business as usual,” expressed the Kewadin lawmaker. Elsenheimer said he will work to push policies that:

  • reform taxation to create a fair and uniform tax;
  • streamline state and local permitting;
  • establish English as our state’s official language;
  • reduce funding for state agencies, including the Legislature by cutting two-percent and holding future increases to less than inflation;
  • equalize state funding for school districts; and
  • halt or reduce the level of taxation on essential commodities like gasoline and utilities.

“Communities, residents and taxpayers in northern Michigan are not happy with Lansing and unless some real reforms are made, the problems we’re all experiencing will only heighten,” said Elsenheimer. “It’s time for leaders to stand up and be counted. Northern Michigan can count on me.”
